PeaceJam increases young people’s awareness about global issues around violence, war and peace, and develops their leadership capacity to bring about more peace in schools, local communities and the world. One school year commitment of at least one and a half hours per week is expected for adult advisors to supervise and work with PeaceJam youth club members.
Step 1: Contact the PeaceJam UK in Bradford. If you work with teenagers and are planning to implement the PeaceJam programme and curriculum, please contact the PeaceJam UK office to get more information, materials and support
Step 2: We offer training sessions. PeaceJam UK offers interested teachers, youth leaders and advisors an introductory training session to learn about PeaceJam, about the participating Nobel Peace Laureate and hear best practices in running a PeaceJam club. You will receive a copy of the PeaceJam curriculum and other resource materials, such as DVDs.

Step 3: Teaching the PeaceJam Curriculum. Through regular ‘study’ meetings, adult advisors help young people explore the concepts and skills of peace and peacemaking, examine the case study of the Nobel Peace Laureate, and discuss & reflect upon the life and achievements of Nobel Laureates.
If you are in West Yorkshire, we can also send our PeaceJam mentors to your school or youth club to run the same curriculum activities to get you started. Please contact Sonia Mahmood – Peace Education Officer on: 01274 234206 or s.s.mahmood@bradford.ac.uk
Step 4: Help the young people develop a Peace Plan. As part of the curriculum, each PeaceJam group identifies a problem around conflict, tension, inequality or injustice that needs solving in their school or community and helps them to create a voluntary project to address it. Adult advisors help young persons develop this plan through brainstorming sessions. These projects will be presented on a display board and shared with the Nobel Laureate and other PeaceJam participants at the PeaceJam Conference.
Step 5: Registration and travel arrangement. All necessary paperwork for the PeaceJam UK Conference (medical release and registration forms) are supplied by and returned to the PeaceJam UK Bradford office. These forms will be provided via email. Please contact Tony Myers for a Registration Packet - tonypeacejamuk@hotmail.co.uk
Adult advisors are encouraged to make travel arrangements and secure necessary field trip forms well in advance of the youth conference.
